You can add an eligible battery to existing solar in Townsville. We check whether your inverter can take a battery, or whether an AC-coupled battery is the better fit. The size follows how much power you use at night. Ergon has to approve the job before we install.
A hybrid inverter has a battery connection. A solar-only inverter usually does not. The label tells us which.
One inverter runs the panels and the battery. It fits when the inverter needs replacing, or you are adding panels.
The battery has its own inverter and sits beside yours. Your panels stay. It fits when that inverter is still sound.
How much power you use at night sets the size. Same bands as our battery systems. The panels must make spare solar to charge it.
Couples, retirees and smaller homes. Lights, fridge, TV and one air con at night.
Families running air con most evenings.
Big homes with a pool, ducted air con or an EV.
Array too small? We add panels. Most solar we install now is 10–30 kW.
Exact sizes depend on the brand. We install Sigenergy, Tesla Powerwall, Sungrow, SolaX and BYD.
Set by your install date, not the date you sign. It steps down on 1 January 2027.
Yes, before we install, even with no export. We lodge the application. On the 44c Solar Bonus Scheme, tell us first. Ergon approval in Townsville.
Send a recent bill and the inverter model.
We check the inverter, switchboard and night use.
We quote hybrid or AC-coupled, then lodge Ergon approval and install.
Yes. We either AC-couple a battery beside it, or replace it with a hybrid. The model number decides which.
We add panels, usually 10–30 kW, sized to the roof and to Ergon's offer.
Yes, on an eligible battery. About 30% off on the first 14 kWh. 14–28 kWh gets 60% of the rate. 28–50 kWh gets 15% of the rate. It is set by the install date, not the sign date, and it steps down on 1 January 2027.
It can, if the battery exports to the grid. Tell us before we design.
