The Tesla Powerwall 3 brings several new features and improvements over its predecessors, making it one of the most advanced home energy storage solutions. Here are the key features:
 

1. Integrated Solar Inverter

  • One of the biggest changes in Powerwall 3 is the built-in solar inverter. This integration means that a separate hybrid inverter is no longer needed for string inverter solar systems. The Powerwall 3 can convert the energy produced by solar panels directly into electricity that can be used by the home.

 

2. Capacity and Scalability

  • The Powerwall 3 has a storage capacity of 13.5 kWh per unit.
  • It is expandable, allowing up to four units to be connected for a combined capacity of 54 kWh. Scalability is expected to increase to support up to 216 kWh by early 2025, making it suitable for larger homes or commercial applications.

 

3. Power Output

  • Offers a continuous power output of 11.04 kW. However, in regions like New South Wales, Australia, it is typically programmed to a maximum output of 10 kW to comply with local grid restrictions.

 

4. Advanced Safety with Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Cells

  • The Powerwall 3 uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, which offer enhanced safety, stability, and durability compared to the nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) cells used in Powerwall 2. LFP cells are less prone to thermal runaway, reducing the risk of overheating and fires.

 

5. Flood-Resistant Design

  • Designed to withstand flooding, the Powerwall 3 can be submerged in water up to 600 millimeters (about 24 inches). This feature makes it highly suitable for regions prone to extreme weather conditions, including mild flooding.

 

6. High Charging and Solar Input Capacity

  • It supports 5 kW of charging power, making it quick to recharge from solar or the grid.
  • It can handle up to 20 kW of solar input, allowing for a larger solar panel array to be integrated with the Powerwall 3 for maximum energy production.

 

7. Three Maximum Power Point Trackers (MPPTs)

  • Equipped with three MPPTs that optimize solar energy production even in cases of shading or when panels are installed at different angles or orientations. This ensures better energy generation efficiency across varied conditions.

 

8. Indoor and Outdoor Installation

  • The Powerwall 3 is designed to operate efficiently across a wide range of temperatures (from -20°C to 50°C), making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use in various climates.

 

9. Compact and Lightweight
